Safety equipment and procedures.
Passage planning & Passage Management (Relates to weather and vessel).
Watch keeping and night passages.
Daily life at sea including provisioning for the voyage, meal preparation, etc
Formalities and procedures for arriving by yacht in a foreign country.
About your hosts & mentors:
Your hosts and mentors will be John & Leanne Hembrow organisers of the Down Under Rally. John & Leanne have been full time live aboard cruising sailors for the past 10 years. They have over 35,000 nm at sea and during this time have sailed their own vessels down the the SW coast of the USA, the entire west coast of Central America and crossed the entire pacific ocean from Panama to Australia.
In addition they have made multiple return voyages from Australia to the SW Pacific islands including New Caledonia , New Zealand , Fiji & Vanuatu .
About the vessel:
The voyage will be made aboard Songlines a purpose built 15m Catamaran. John & Leanne have covered over 15,000 nm in Songlines since 2015. During this time Songlines has proven herself to be a safe, strong and perfectly at home in the ocean.
Accomodation options aboard Songlines:
Songlines is an owners version catamaran, meaning that one entire hull (the port side) is for the exclusive use of the owners.
The starboard hull is for the exclusive use of guests. A king size berth is located aft of the hull with hanging locker and cupboards for clothing and personal items. A single berth is also located forward of the aft cabin that can be screened off from the aft cabin and the toilet & shower area which is located forward of the midships berth.
Those interested in joining us have the option of either securing the entire starboard hull or sharing the accomodations and facilities with another guest.
This is not a pleasure cruise!
All those aboard will be required to contribute to the sailing and management of the vessel whilst at sea and contribute to the daily tasks that encompass life aboard. When at sea this is a 24/7 commitment.
Whilst there maybe the opportunity to enjoy the your surroundings before and after the voyage, if you are looking for a holiday and dreaming of champagne sailing in sheltered waterways, light breezes, palm trees and sandy beaches then you will be disappointed.
If on the other hand you are looking to learn how to sail a vessel across an ocean in order to one day be able to make a similar voyage on you own vessel and enjoy all the rewards that come with having done so, then this is certain to be an enlightening experience.
