Nationally Accredited First Aid Training Course.

Conducted by Anthony Little. Dip T&AS, Dip WH&S, Cert IV TAE, JP (qual).

Unit Name; HLTAID003

About the trainer;

Tony Little is a commercial skipper, holding a Master 5 ticket enabling him to skipper commercial vessels to 24mtr (80 feet) to 200 mile offshore. He taught SCUBA diving for 15 years, was a commercial diver for 5 years, and has sailed his own vessels from the bottom of Tasmania to Hinchinbrook Island and New Caledonia.

Tony spent 5 years driving the medical emergency response vehicle at the University of Queensland, and delivered ESS and Coxswain courses at Gold coast TAFE.

Tony and his wife Vicki live aboard s.v “L’Attitudes” a 13 metre Belize FP, and have lived on the Gold Coast for 24 years.

What’s different about this course from other First Aid Courses?

First Aid4.jpg

Tony is providing the training and he promises to keep it interesting, active and involved by maximising the “doing” & minimising the ‘talking’.  By keeping the group small, and relevant to sailing & cruising, Tony can condense the course, concentrate on the practical aspects, and expand on the components of the course that relate to yachting.  Of course all required competencies will be covered so upon completion you will receive a Nationally Accredited Certificate.

We recommend that at least 2 persons from each vessel complete the training. Why?

Being a qualified First aider is great, unless you are the one in need of attention, it is very hard to advise someone when you are unconscious yourself!  At least 2 people on the boat should be confident in their ability to provide first aid should the need arise.

Course Content

On the day of the course we will be using a live Defibrillator, and 2 training defibrillators, asthma treatments and drugs, severe allergy anaphylaxis treatments and drugs. And YES, after the course you will be able to go to a chemist and purchase your own Ventolin and Epi-Pens if you desire.

In addition we will cover;

  • Fractures
  • Strains
  • Cuts
  • Concussion
  • Rib, chest and abdominal injuries
  • Marine bites and stings – and the latest recommended treatments.
  • Hyper- and hypothermia
  • Crush and amputation injuries.
  • Emergency communications
  • Plus first aid kit contents – what you hopefully will NOT need, but should have just in case.

You may also be surprised to learn how Grandma's home remedies have proven to have scientific basis in fact under the evidence-based systems now in place medically. As part of the course content you will receive advice on up-to-the minute first aid websites such as ARC and ANZCOR.
